iPhonAsia comment: A bit of guesswork …. Silence in this case is good news. Non-disclosure agreements have been signed and it’s game on with China Mobile. No more leaks or disses to Apple by way of China Mobile spokespersons. IMHO a deal is done! Probably for delivery of a TD-SCDMA iPhone 3G as that’s what China Mobile truly needs to boost acceptance of China’s new 3G standard.
Timing for announcement? Could happen soon however any reference to “TD-SCDMA” support in the iPhone 3G won’t be mentioned as this would dampen current TD-SCDMA handset sales (primarily built by China OEMs) and China and China Mobile don’t want to discourage immediate usage of the new TD network. A special production run of a TD iPhone 3G most likely won’t be ready until 2009. Consequently an announcement might also be more appropriately delayed until year end 2008.

Wang also noted that other international carriers would participate in expansion of China’s TD-SCDMA 3G. iPhonAsia believes this carrier will be South Korea Telecom.
