iPhonAsia Comment: It is iPhonAsia’s view that Apple and China Mobile are now beyond “talks” and into logistics. And planing is vital as there is at least an “even money” (50/50) chance that China is insisting on Apple delivering a TD-SCDMA + mobile TV capable iPhone (a TD iPhone 3G). Apple will not rush this special production run model to market for many reasons. No announcement will likely be made until 30 days or so before launch. China does not want to kill off current TD-SCDMA handset sales… which a TD iPhone 3G announcement would do. While China wants/needs a TD iPhone badly, Apple will not rush the production/test process. Look for announcement later this year. More here > on probable timeframe for a TD iPhone 3G
BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- China Mobile Ltd. (CHL) Chairman Wang Jianzhou reiterated Friday that the country’s largest mobile carrier by users is still talking with Apple Inc. (AAPL) about introducing the iPhone in China.
Both sides are interested in bringing the iPhone to China, but haven’t reached any agreement, he said, adding there is no timetable for introducing the iPhone in the country.
Last month, China Mobile said they had resumed talks with Apple about launching the iPhone in China, which has the most mobile-phone users in the world, after earlier talks ended in January.
Wang was speaking with reporters about China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA services during the Olympics. TD-SCDMA, or Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access, is a locally developed advanced mobile-phone technology.
