A number of telecom analysts had speculated that China’s Ministry of Information and Industry would issue 3G licenses to China carriers in concert with the forthcoming telecom industry restructuring (announcements expected after the Olympic Games). The Shanghai Securities News is reporting today, however, that China’s 3G licensure issuance might be delayed. This 3G push back might be designed to buy time for the new “china built” TD-SCDMA 3G protocol. TD-SCDMA is in its infancy and the “currently underway” TD-SCDMA trials are not going particularly smoothly.
